Good morning & happy Monday!

“Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.”

Andy Rooney, American television writer

With last week’s dive in nerdville will the SECURE 2.0 Act breakdown I thought maybe today we could have a little fun 😊.

I came across this diagram that I thought was quite funny …

What do Bank Robbers, DJs, Preachers, and Mom Taking Off Your Sweater all have in common?

I thought that was a really funny flow chart.  Hope you got a kick out of it like I did.  😊

Going back to the Andy Rooney quote, I believe he is so correct … there is so much joy in the journey, but oftentimes we can miss it because we are so focused on the end result.   My friends, I hope we can all enjoy the journey!

I can be exceptionally guilty of not doing this in my life at times.  I recently completed a personality profile and I profiled as a Logistician.  I think ‘hard work’ showed up dozens of times in my report.  Under the parenting section of the report it said that people with my personality profile “are strongly principled, valuing patience and hard work, qualities that children often struggle with.”  It goes on to say “This doesn’t always come easily for their children through, as Logisticians tend to be strict, with high standards and expectations.”  I asked my kids if they thought these were accurate descriptions of me and I heard an overwhelming “YES!”

It’s true, I have high standards for my kids, but I have high standards for myself.  My profile does not mention ‘fun, spontaneous, or care-free’ … I wish those were some traits I possessed.

I’m a ‘what’s next’ kind of guy and oftentimes don’t ‘stop to smell the roses’ along the journey.  Heck, I might trample the roses on the way to the destination 😉.  This is an area of my life I have had to intentionally address and still have plenty of room for growth.

I remember as a kid, one year my siblings and I all got candy at Christmas time.  My siblings devoured theirs in a matter of hours, but not me.  Nope, I saved mine … hid it under my bed so I could enjoy it at a future point.  Well, guess what?  A few months later, when I decided I was ready to eat one of those pieces of candy, a mouse had beat me to my candy stash and all my candy was ruined.  I had to throw away the entire supply candy I was saving.

I know there are many of us who share the same struggle.  What is the balance between living for today and preparing for tomorrow?  There is no simple answer to complex question like that.

Some of us struggle with spending too much and as a result risk financial consequences down the road.  Others of us so aggressively save or reduce spending in order to have an amazing future, but then we risk missing out of the joys in the present.

These can be difficult waters to navigate and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.  This is where a customized, individualized plan is invaluable.

I am so humbled and grateful to be your planner.  I am as committed as ever to serving my business mission based on Matthew 6:21 (“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”) of helping my clients align their treasure (finances) and their heart.

Hope you week ahead is full of great experiences and that you intentionally take a moment to stop and enjoy them. 😊
