“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.”
Thomas Paine, 1777
I read that quote from Thomas Paine, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, on a recent visit to Yorktown, Virginia. Paine wrote those words the year after the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Yorktown is the location where the U.S. defeated the British to conclude the Revolutionary War on October 19, 1781 … 1,933 days after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Although we as a nation declared our independence, it took over 5 years to actually earn it.
We can declare our desire to be successful investors … but investment returns are earned. They are earned by investors who are patience & diligence, who don’t get caught up in the day-to-day grind but stay focused on their goals. I am so grateful for the bravery and courage of our founding fathers and those who fought for U.S. independence … we are reaping the rewards of their actions today. The financial actions we take will also have lasting impact … on our own future and for future generations beyond us. As I have said many times over … I manage your money for decades not days. We are determined to help our clients earn the investment returns needed to support their goals … everything else is just commentary.
Things worth accomplishing are rarely easy. Investing is no exception.
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Independence Day! Make it a great week ahead! May God continue to bless the United States of America!
