Good morning, happy Monday & happy Labor Day!
“Life is short, I want to live well. One life one story to tell…Waking up my soul, every breath that you take is a miracle. Life is short, I want to live it well.”
Lyrics from Live It Well by Switchfoot
My oldest son is approaching his 10th birthday and as we were recently going through our bedtime routine (prayer, Bible passage, story reading) he shared with me how excited he is to turn double digits.
Indeed, that is quite an accomplishment, and I am exceptionally proud of the young man he is growing up to be.
What’s interesting about the conversation is his observation that I am also double digits. I explained to him that his mother and I are both double digits, and so are his grandparents and even his great-grandparents.
I explained to him that very few of us will ever get out of double digits. Although possible, it is not exceptionally likely that any one of us make it to triple digits.
This of course gets me thinking about how short and fragile life is.
One of my favorite movies is Gladiator and one of the lines Russell Crow states is “what we do in life, echoes an eternity.” Indeed, all of our lives are fleeting but I wholeheartedly believe that we have all been placed on this earth by our Creator for this exact time in human history … and I believe we all have a mission to accomplish with our time remaining on earth. How we choose to live our lives matters, not just for us, but for the legacy we leave behind.
What a tremendous opportunity and a somewhat daunting thought.
Since most of us will expire with a two-digit number my question is simply: what story do I want written about my life in the remaining time I have left on earth?
This living intentionally stuff is hard, huh? The easy temptation is to not think about such important questions and topics and instead run through the days much like a hamster on a wheel. But I believe such questions are imperative for us to truly live life to the fullest.
I am honored and humbled to be your financial planner, and it is my hope and prayer that the work we do with you at Intentional Wealth not only enriches your finances, but also serves to enrich your life. You have no doubt enriched mine.
Have a blessed week ahead!
